The story of Obsidian Wine Company in Napa Valley, California is one of heritage, innovation, and adventure. The winery's history began with Nicholas Molnar, who planted Poseidon Vineyard in 1973. His sons later expanded the business by purchasing Obsidian Ridge in the Mayacamas Mountains.
He was among the first to farm this area which at the time was considered too cool to ripen wine grapes. For three decades, he grew chardonnay & pinot noir for the top sparkling wine houses in Napa Valley.
The Obsidian Ridge vineyard
Located in the Mayacamas Mountains, the vineyard is planted on a ridge of solid black obsidian glass
The extreme climate, altitude, and volcanics of the site result in wines that are prized for their aromatics, acidity, and structure
The first 98 cases of Obsidian Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon were made in 2002
